Dear Parvulus,

I’m sorry I haven’t written before now. I haven’t written because (frankly) I didn’t know how to answer. When you say you are “a very spiritual person,” I don’t know how to take that. To my mind a spiritual person is someone who is mature in Christ, not (as you say you are) a baby Christian. You say, “I see things deeper than what a normal person would.” I got an example of your “deep” seeing when you tried to find some deep allegorical meaning in Luke 17:34: "Two men in bed: the one taken and the other left." Maybe what you call seeing deeper is really seeing things that are not there.

And what are you doing in Ezekiel? Like all of us “natural” people, you need to be grounded first in the simple, straightforward teachings of the New Testament, not  camping out on some difficult, dark passage in Ezekiel. I’m not saying you should not read Ezekiel, or Revelation, or anything else. But salvation is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and in the epistles. When you are saved, sanctified, free from drugs and swearimg amd sexual sin, and grounded in the pure Gospel, and have proven yourself when you're out of prison, then will be time enough for you to worry about the “deep things.”

God does love you very much. And he wants to bless you abundantly. But first you must surrender your whole soul to Him. You will never have victory from the things that defeat you until you do. And, my dear Parvulus, you wonder why people turn away from you.  But when you set yourself up as their teacher and they see your life, why would they want to listen to you? As you confess, you are not living the life, so why should you be credible as a teacher? Besides, are you sure you want to be a teacher? Teachers are judged by a higher standard than other people (James 3:1).  Also Paul warns against putting an inexperienced believer in a place of authority: “He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap”(1Timothy. 3:6-7). In my opinion, Parvulus, you need to humble yourself before God and man, become a servant rather than a teacher, serve your time honorably, read and meditate continually on the truths of Christ, and wait until others come to you after seeing your holy walk in Jesus.

It’s very distressing to see you pressing on people your “deeper” understanding of  Scripture by trying to expound difficult verses that many learned men and women cannot understand. Trust me, Parvulus, all of this is a sidetrack the Devil has you on so you won’t simply hold yourself accountable for your everyday life. Satan is happy for you to find deep meanings in the hard prophetic books as long as he can keep you in prison and in bondage. Who gave you the authority to “show people the right way” when you are not living right yourself?

My dear young friend, Parvulus, I couldn’t understand much of what you wrote. It sounds as though Satan has you very confused. I’ve told you what I think—not that you are crazy, but VERY confused.  You have a great longing for God, but are not willing to come as a little child. You want God, but not on HIS TERMS. I beg you to lay aside any desire for “deep knowledge” and go back to the Gospels, Acts, and the letters of Paul, James, Peter and John. Forget all deep meaning and try to see what they meant. It’s quite possible you need to be born again, for “He who is born of God does not continue to live a sinful life because God’s seed remains in him...” (My paraphrase) (I John 3:9; 5:18). If there has been no changed life, then there has been no new birth.  I’m sending you my study on the New Birth.

Maher-shalal-hashbaz means “quick attack and easy plunder of the enemy.” But what is that to you?Why don't you rather go and find out what this means: “...let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord” (II Corinthians 7:1)

Keep your zeal for God and His Word, dear friend; but approach God and His Word humbly, as a little child, not as some “spiritual person” who is studying to teach others and to search out God’s dark secrets. Let me show you what God wants from us, Parvulus: This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my Word.” (Isaiah 66:2)

I commend you to God and to the Word of His grace and bless you with a humble, contrite heart.  God bless you.
