Devotional Meditations
A jealous God
God is jealous of our hearts, for He knows that when He possesses our
hearts, He will have all of us. Then He may safely lavish
His gifts on us.
But until He possesses our whole hearts, even His gifts are a danger
to
us; even His gifts are potential rivals. Can you see that?
Can you see
that even God's gifts and blessings can become idols? We are
so easily
distracted from the Giver to His gifts that He must sometimes hold
back, or even take back, some good thing He wishes us to have?
This is so that we may see Him as our sole Source of all good. But
He takes nothing from us that He does not mean to restore to us
one
hundred fold.
God's Science and Man's
Human science discovers scientific truth by unraveling the tapestry
of God's science. Analytical science works, in a sense, with
its back to God. And the further it moves into its analysis of God's
handiwork, the further it moves away from God. It ends up with the
illusion that it has found the meaning of life when it has only found the
mechanism of life. This can easily be seen by answering the following
question: Is the meaning of a flower in its blossoming beauty or
in its chemical makeup? Scientific analysis works by breaking down
and "explaining" the fragrance of a rose, its color, texture. But
the question still remains, Does the truth of a rose, its meaining
for God or man, lie in its analyzed, explained chemical nature, or in its
morning beauty?
