Appendix: Prayers in Preparation for Deliverance

Since the two primary sources of “ground” given to demons results from involvement in the occult and unforgiveness, I have included two model prayers. These are mere models, which only suggest in outline the procedure we take when we counsel people for deliverance.

RENOUNCING ALL OCCULT INVOLVEMENT:

Dear Heavenly Father, I renounce the Devil and all his works. I renounce every involvement in any occult practice. I repent of trying to gain knowledge or power from demonic sources, even if I did it innocently.  In particular I renounce, and repent of: (name specific practice: e.g. ouija board, tarot cards, seance, ESP, etc.) _______________________________.  I also renounce any practice of allowing myself to contact the spiritual world or pray to/ through spiritual entities or people, except Jesus Christ (Praying to or through Mary or the saints, spells, meditations, etc.) ______________.  I joyfully receive forgiveness and thank you, Father, for Your mercy. In Jesus’ name I take back any ground I have given to Satan by these practices. Amen.

 FORGIVENESS:

Dear Heavenly Father, I choose to forgive everyone who has ever wronged me, no matter how grievously. For Jesus’ sake, and because of your commands to forgive even my enemies, I freely, and from the heart, forgive (name everyone you can remember, one by one): _____________________. Lord, you know that _________ has done me wrong and hurt me. Please help me to forgive ___________.  I freely forgive; I tear up the IOU. Father, and I declare that _____________ owes me nothing; the debt has been forgiven in Jesus’ name. And Father, I repent of holding anger, hatred, and resentment towards ______________. Forgive me for that and give me power to bless ____________.   I thank You, Lord, for forgiving me.  Amen.

Of course you are not expected to forgive anyone for the wrong they did to someone else, only to you. Nor are you expected to condone the wrong or bless them in their sin. But for the sake of your deliverance from demons and the removal of their ground in you, “If you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
